JAN VERLAAT "The landscapes of North-Holland".
This exhibition shows the works of the Dutch photographer Jan Verlaat. He produced the photographs in the environment in which he lived for a long time: the West-Friesland region and the polders Beemster and Schermer in the province of North-Holland.
His earlier analogue photographs in black and white show a graphic and strict concept, often in a symmetric way. Jan wanted to restrict himself in a limited tone scale to create a special atmosphere in his vision to show landscapes. Sometimes, desolate, sometimes romantic.
His more recent work shows landscapes in full color. Because of the digital techniques he succeeded in giving the images his own signature without falling into extremities. He often uses extreme wide angle lenses which can have an estranged effect and does accentuate the panoramic West-Frisian landscapes. Also in these images he chooses for a strict and simple composition, showing the beauty of the unique North-Holland landscapes.
During this exhibition the
