FRITS GERRITSEN

Initially the Amsterdam born Frits Gerritsen wanted to become a doctor. However, after he met the well known Dutch photographer Cas Oorthuis and his work for photographer Imre Rona, he started his career as an independent photographer in 1948. Frits became very well known with his photography specialising in advertising, travel, theatre, portrait, wildlife and medical photography.

Of the many highlights in his career his documentary of the Hungarian revolt and the flooding of the province of Zeeland in The Netherlands in 1953 should be mentioned. Several books with his work have been published such as "Marken and the Markers". The Dutch photo manifestations Photo Festival Naarden and Noorderlicht featured his work.

He played an important role in the foundation of the Dutch Silver Camera Award as well as several photo academies in Holland. He is member of honour of the Dutch photography associations BFN and GKF.
